My farming journey first began at the University of Illinois Sustainable Student farm summer internship, which then turned into part time employment. Here I learned the ins and outs of sustainable vegetable farming. Beyond the practices, I learned about issues involving both sustainability and social justice pertaining to the world of agriculture.
The next summer I felt myself seeking the soil and outdoors once more, and began work with Canopy Farm Management. I worked alongside other farm technicians to establish perennial polyculture/agroforestry plots on preexisting and independently owned farms. It was satisfying to work with my hands once more whilst helping others establish sustainable farming practices.
The lessons and skills I have learned through my work in agriculture will follow me throughout my life. In me it has started a passion for not just saving the earth, but working alongside it and encouraging growth.
